I love living in Peregian Beach. There are wonderful people, a real sense of community, and great weather to match. What’s not to love?
Peregian Beach is a slender beachside township on the Sunshine Coast, 110 km north of central Brisbane and 10 km south of Noosa Heads.
It is both a resort and a retirement town with a population just over 3,500. The Sunshine Coast is one of the most popular tourist destinations
in Australia, with Noosa perhaps the best known. On a clear day you can stand on Peregian Beach and look towards Noosa Heads and see Noosa Hill
as a predominant landscape feature, forming the skyline and backdrop to urban development in the area.
I am told Peregian is an aboriginal word for emu, from the local gubbi gubbi tribe who used to inhabit the area. Apparently there are a lot of emus in the area. I’ve never seen one, but my guide dog Narjee barks at things from time-to-time, so I assume he is just making sure the emu hoards keep their distance.
Here is a brief snapshot of the town prepared by the council.
I’ve put together this page to give you some ideas of what Peregian Beach has to offer, how to get here, suggestions of where to eat and some idea of where to stay. I hope you find it useful.

Getting Around
- If you’re staying locally, one of the best ways to get around is on foot or bicycle.
- Sunshine Coast Airport is less than 20 minutes by car, providing services to Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, New Zealand as well as regional services.
- Brisbane airport is the closest major international airport, around 90 minutes away.
- Both SunAir and Col's Airshuttle offer transit stop and door to door service to and from both Sunshine Coast and Brisbane airports.
- If you prefer your transfers to be a little more luxurious, try Travel Time Luxury Transfers. Their name says it all.
- For a taxi service use Suncoast Cabs. It can sometimes be tricky to get a cab during busy times, so make sure you have a reservation booked well in advance.
Things to Do
- Our magnificent Surf Beach is open all year round, free of charge!! Our local surf lifesavers are
a dedicated team of people from the local and surrounding areas who give their time freely to maintain a safe and friendly environment
for Peregian beachgoers. Whether you’re an avid surfer or prefer relaxing with a good book, our glorious beach is sure to live up to your
expectations. If you’ve gone for a long walk on the beach, use exit 57 or 58 to exit back at the township, or look for the Norfolk pines. If you get lost, just
give me a call and Narjee and I will head out to your rescue.
- Make sure you visit the Peregian markets that are on the 1st and 3rd Sunday morning of each month. This community market is located in the beachfront park near the surf club. Really, you can’t miss it. There are lots of stalls from locals selling their textiles, woodwork, artwork and all kinds of bric-a-brac.
- If you're a music lover you won't want to miss the Peregian Originals. This music event kicks off around 1pm (straight after the markets) in front of the surf club. It is a wonderful free event at the atmosphere is great. Don't forget your picnic blanket.
- If you’re lucky enough to be here between May-July and September-November, you’ll be sure to see humpback whales cruising along the Peregian Beach shoreline.
Day Trips
Shopping
The Village Square is the place to go for all your local shopping. Our relaxed town square has a mini-market, bakery, grocer, chemist, post office, hardware and a variety of specialty boutiques and professional services.
My personal favourites are:
For more serious shopping you will need a car or take public transport:
- There is a Coles in Peregian Springs (5 minutes by car)
- There are a Coles and Woolworths in Coolum Beach (about 6 minutes by car)
- There are a Coles and Woolworths in Noosa Heads, as well as Hasting Street and Noosa Junction for your holiday shopping (about 20 minutes by car)
- For the more serious shopper, I suggest you head to Sunshine Plaza Shopping Centre in Maroochydore (about 25 minutes by car)
There are public bus services to each of the above as well. If you are taking public transport, I would not recommend Peregian Springs as that requires some transfers – Coolum is a much easier option.
Dining
There are a wide range of eating options in the Village Square catering for all tastes. My favourites are:
